When Babies Eat. Non....Stop......

Goodness me, I feel like all I did was eat and watch a baby all day. Oh, yes, Monday was the challenging one. I had a delightful, beautiful, blessed baby boy named Santiago that decided he needed to breastfeed every 30 minutes or so. The pattern went as follows, more or less:
  • wake, eat, fall asleep, diaper change, eat, sleep for 10 minutes
  • mom runs to brush teeth, baby wakes crying
  • "you can't be hungry again, can you? let's play!"
  • no play, no dance, no sing, no move around living room! EAT!
  • eat, fall asleep, burp, diaper change, eat again
  • sleep for 20 minutes
  • mom runs to shower, baby wakes crying FEED ME!
  • "you can't be hungry again, can you? let's play!"
  • no play, no dance, no sing, no move around living room! EAT!
  • eat, fall asleep, burp.....
Repeat. All morning. Through the middle of the day and then.... turn into happy, joyous, playful baby for papa's arrival around 3:00. Funny baby. All you can do is laugh at that point, right? At least, after you have cried a bit with baby and rocked both of you to sleep for a daytime nap (lie - only baby napped, mom wiped away her tears and accepted the fact that Santi just wanted to eat allllll day today.) Those are the mornings when singing hymns is the only way to stay sane. Praise God for the musicians who were inspired by His word to write such amazing songs - they're my life saver these days.

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
Oh, praise Him
Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
Oh, praise Him
Alleluia!

A peek of the little peanut in his sweater? Okay! (thank you, great aunt Margie and Al!)

Onto the food!

- oh, and for the record, I eat a lot more food than this - I just don't see how interesting a picture of my: 3 bananas, 1 apple, handful of carrots, 459,545,341 prunes, almonds, raisins, walnuts, kiwi, mandarins, banana oat bar, chocolate hempseed orange bar and....more prunes... would be that exciting! But each of those foods I just listed go into my mouth pretty much daily. Hooray for plants!

and then Santi took part in something absolutely beautiful: a diaper change, a naked(ish) baby and his papa's bare chest. Skin to skin contact with his papa for the first time in a while - he fell asleep on his padre in complete baby bliss, then got his jammies on and nursed on last time before he dozed off for three hours followed by three more hours followed by two-ish hours and we all felt so good! Even Edu said he only woke up once last night, and felt great during his long run in the mornin'. I hope we can do this nightly, or as often as possible, because it was so precious seeing Edu and his baby boy so close! Talk about amazing bonding time, it was so needed. I'm going to try to do it, too, after Santiago gets his baths, which he absolutely hates. It seems like a good idea to have something beautiful follow such a traumatic (for baby) experience (bath) so I hope to nurse the fella in his diaper - both of us under warm blanet - in the hopes of making bathtime seem less like the worse thing to ever be invented!
